During the third week of May each year, Women for a Healthy Environment (WHE) celebrates National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month by dedicating a Fragrance-Free Day. Today we were honored to accept a proclamation from City of Pittsburgh Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak declaring Tuesday, May 20, 2014 as Fragrance-Free Day.

In the Community:
We will have booths set up around downtown Pittsburgh to educate the public about the health effects associated with this mystery ingredient. We will also be distributing samples of fragrance-free products. As you may know, a combination of over 3,000 different chemicals can make up synthetic fragrance. Contact us at 412-420-2290 if you would like to schedule a community presentation.

In the Workplace:
If your company would like to schedule a Fragrance-Free Lunch & Learn, contact us today. In addition, we will be asking businesses to take the pledge and "Don't Spray for a Day" in the office. If you would like to learn more, or register your business to participate, call 412-420-2290 or email us at michelle@WomenForAHealthyEnvironment.org.

In the Schools:
Lastly, we are pleased to announce the creation of our "Fragrance-Free Schools" toolkit. This resource provides tools for a school to launch a fragrance-free initiative, including sample policy language, letter to parents, fact sheet and poster. WHE staff would be happy to schedule a meeting with your school administrator, parent group or school board to take the first steps toward creating and implementing a fragrance-free policy, and healthier school environment.

We hope you will be able to join us, and go Fragrance-Free for a Day!
